the battlemap.
(wow it's been a couple months since my last devlog. i made my first 5$ on itch the other day!)
i promised i wasn't gonna make one of these, but i feel like i ought to. i'm making a battlemap. to set it apart from what every other VTT already does, i'm aiming for something simple, with really only the bare necessities you'd have at a real table. like: i'm not all that interested in simulated sight lines so much as i am immediacy of access for Players and GMs - so the goal here is to be kinda simple and kinda boardgamey, but lifting from the ux-feel of Final Fantasy Tactics. i might extend this further with more art assets, but - again - there's an advantage to that boardgamey-ness. if i can make good-looking generic assets over a responsive base, then i have more time to script this program, and you have more time to write your games if you're not hunting for assets that kinda but not really fit the aesthetic of your game.
for similar reasons, i'm limiting the size of a battlemap to 25*25. (i may add some vertical space in the future, but there's a lot i need to get done before then.) i think anything beyond that range gets kinda boring to track.
